Teatro Mayor Director Receives Spanish Prize

The Director of the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo Ramiro Osorio, has been named Honorary Academic of the Academia de Artes Escénicas de España

The title was given to Osorio on Nov. 27 and was in recognition of his work over the years to establish bridges between Colombia and Spain. In 2022 and 2023, the Teatro Mayor invited Spain as its honorary guest and featured such Spanish artists as Pablo Sainz-Villegas, the Compañía Nacional de Danza and the Ballet Nacional de España.

Orosio joins a list of luminaries who have also received the honor including Plácido Domingo, Nacho Duato, Eva Yerbabuena, and Antonio Banderas.

Over the past 40 years, Osorio has worked in the cultural sector. He is the founder and director of the Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro de Bogotá and the Festival Internacional de las Artes de San José, Costa Rica. He was also the director of the Festival Sevilla as well as the Gran Festival Ciudad de México.
