Teatro La Fenice Workers to Protest on Nov. 10 Joined by Major Italian Opera Houses
By Francisco SalazarThe RSU of the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia has announced a protest on Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. that will start at the Stazione di Venezia Santa Lucia and end at the Campo San Fantin, next to the Teatro La Fenice.
The protest titled “Un passo dopo l’altro, la nostra voce,” was created to reaffirm the values of dialogue, transparency, and respect within cultural institutions, and to reiterate the demand for a genuine dialogue between management and workers in decisions regarding the future of the theater.
The protest will make a symbolic route through the city, with six stops, starting from Campo Santa Margherita, where there will be readings and speeches by representatives of opera and symphony foundations, orchestras, choirs, conservatories, and cultural institutions from across Italy, who have expressed their solidarity and support for the workers of La Fenice.
The Teatro Alla Scala di Milano, del Teatro Regio di Torino, del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, dell’Arena di Verona and Teatro Verdi di Trieste will participate alongside other important industry members.
The initiative aims to draw public and institutional attention to the recent appointment of the new Music Director Beatrice Venezi, which took place without any prior consultation with the staff.
