Teatro La Fenice Officially Appoints Beatrice Venezi as Music Director

By Francisco Salazar

The Teatro La Fenice has confirmed Beatrice Venezi as its new Music Director.

Venezi will start her tenure in October 2026 for a four-year term.

The news comes after months of protests against the conductor due to her closeness to Giorgia Meloni’s government and her lack of experience with the theater. It also comes after a meeting with the board of directors presided by the mayor of the city Luigi Brugnaro, in which superintendent Nicola Colabianchi sent a letter supporting his decision to name Venezi the new Music Director.

Venezi is a conductor who has collaborated with such institutions as Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the National Theatre of Korea in Seoul, the New Japan Philharmonic, the Sofia Philharmonic, the Nagoya Philharmonic, the National Opera House of Georgia, Opera Holland Park in London, Teatro Coliseo in Buenos Aires, and Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza. She was recently appointed Resident Guest Conductor of the Permanent Orchestra of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
