Teatro La Fenice Cancels Rehearsals After Historic Flood

The Teatro La Fenice has canceled rehearsals for its opening night performance of Verdi’s “Don Carlo” and its gala concert scheduled for Nov. 14.

The theater was flooded after the city of Venice was hit with record-breaking floods that went up to six feet. The company posted a statement via social media noting, “It was a stormy night and the forecasts promise nothing good at once. We will give you news on our activities soon. Anyway, we are here for good morning!

According to AgenPress, the theater announced that it had taken proper measures to secure the legendary opera house and turned off all electricity.

It also noted that the organization is working as fast as possible to clean up damage caused by the water.
