Teatro La Fenice Cancels Opening Night of ‘Otello’ Due to Strike
By Francisco SalazarThe Teatro La Fenice has canceled the opening night of the 2024-25 season due to a strike called by the main theater unions of the company.
The company said that the Nov. 20 performance will no longer take place but the following performances on Nov. 23, 26, 29, and Dec. 1 are still set to be performed as scheduled.
Ticketholders will be reimbursed for the canceled performance.
This is the latest opening performance that the Teatro La Fenice is forced to cancel due to union strikes. The company recently had to cancel the opening of “Turandot” and “La fabbrica illuminata – Erwartung.”
Verdi’s “Otello” is still set to star Francesco Meli, Karah Son, and Luca Micheletti. Myung-Whun Chung conducts the new production by Fabio Ceresa.
