By David Salazar

Teatro Grattacielo will present three major premieres in its 2026 season.

The company revealed its upcoming season in the program for its recent production of “Le Nozze di Figaro.” The program notes indicate that the company will showcase the world premiere of Joseph Summer’s “The Tempest;” the U.S. premiere of the original Italian libretto for Castelnuovo Tedesco’s “The Importance of Being Earnest; and the world premiere of Joshua Nicols and David Winkler’s double bill of “Jefferson Lives!” and “Lorenzo Da Ponte.”

Summer’s “The Tempest” will be based on the Shakespeare play. Meanwhile, the Castelnuovo Tedesco opera dates from 1962 and had its New York premiere back in 1975. Finally, the double bill aims to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America’s independence.

There will also be a community educational multidisciplinary outreach and a performance at Gotham Park.
