Independent Opera Company is set to present Orff’s “Die Kluge” on Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21 at 8 p.m. at The Lindley Theater in North Hollywood.

Independent Opera Company presents the work in English with piano accompaniment. Elise Walters takes the title role of the Clever Maiden opposite Omar Alejandro Rodriguez as the King, with Michael Payne as the Peasant, Kirk Garner and Jamie Sanderson as the Donkey and Mule Owners, Ethan Miller as the Jailer, and Chandler Cummings, Britta Sterling, and Kristin McGinnis rounding out the cast as the three Vagabonds.

Music and artistic direction is by Galina Barskaya, with stage direction by Rae Shrum, production management by Liza Barskaya, and costumes by Salette Corpuz.

“Die Kluge” (The Wise Woman) draws on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale “The Clever Peasant Girl” while thoroughly reworking the source material and penning his own libretto.
