Teatro dell’Opera di Roma Announces Renewal of Artistic Direction

The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma has announced that its Artistic Direction will remain until 2030.

The company announced that Michele Mariotti, Eleonora Abbagnato and Ciro Visco will remain as artistic leaders of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma until 2030, extending into the future the vision and cultural planning that have characterized the past few years.

Music Director Michele Mariotti will remain until Oct. 31, 2030 while Eleonora Abbagnato will be Director of the Ballet Company and the Dance School until July 31, 2030. Finally, Ciro Visco will conduct the Choir until August 31, 2030.

In a statement, Mayor of Rome and President of the Foundation, Roberto Gualtieri said,  “The renewal of the appointments of Michele Mariotti, Eleonora Abbagnato, and Ciro Visco is a source of great pride: thanks to their sensitivity, vision, and commitment, they represent the strength with which we will continue to build a high-quality artistic project for the Teatro Costanzi, capable of projecting our Foundation towards a future full of ever-new successes.”

General Director Francesco Giambrone added, “I am very happy with this triple renewal aimed not only at guaranteeing continuity, but above all conceived in function of the cultural identity of our theatre, which in recent years has constantly sought to enhance the great repertoire, but also to open up to the new languages ​​of the international cultural scene, always looking with curiosity and attention towards the future of musical theatre and dance. Mariotti, Abbagnato, and Visco will remain with us in the coming years, continuing to cultivate the quality and growth of the artistic ensembles, but also continuing in that search for innovative ideas, visions, and proposals that has characterized the most important productions of recent years, of which they have been the protagonists.”
