Teatro de la Zarzuela Names New Music Director

Madrid’s Teatro de la Zarzuela has announced José Miguel Pérez Sierra as its new Music Director.

The conductor will take over for Guillermo García Calvo, who did not renew his contract. This news coincides with the announcement that Isamay Benavente will become the new director of the company.

Pérez Sierra will take over the role during the 2024-2025 season. Next season he will conduct “La verbena de la Paloma,” which will star Jesus Catejon, Borja Quiza, Milagros Martin, Carmen Romeu, Ana Sanmartin, Gurutze Beitia, Gerardo Lopez, Rafael Casetjon, Alberto Frias, Nuria Perez, Raffaela Chacón, and Ana Goya.

Pérez Sierra has conducted at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, Palau de la Música in Valencia, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Real and Teatro de La Zarzuela in Madrid, Ópera de Oviedo, and Opéra-Théâtre in Metz, among others.
