Teatro de la Maestranza Cancels November Performances

By Francisco Salazar

The Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, Spain has canceled its November performances.

La Maestranza made the decision as a result of the new health measures in Andalucía that include a curfew, which will inhibit performances from beginning at 8 p.m. The theater will reschedule the November performances and will continue to sell tickets for performances opening on Dec. 1.

“We are saddened to suspend out activity. We hope this new situation affects the least number of performances coming up,” General Director Javier Menéndez said in a statement.

The theater is the latest in Spain to close following a surge in COVID-19 cases. Among the opera houses that have postponed performances are the Opera de Oviedo, Bilbao Opera, and the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

Spain is currently experiencing a second wave of coronavirus with 1,443,997 confirmed cases and 39,756 confirmed deaths.
