Teatro Comunale di Bologna Announces Cast Change for ‘Madama Butterfly’

The Teatro Comunale di Bologna has announced a cast change for its production of “Madama Butterfly.”

The company said that Latonia Moore will replace the originally announced Maria Jose Siri in the title role. Moore also took to her social media and said, “just when I thought my Butterfly days might be over, a surprise fell into my lap. Turns out, next month I will be making my debut Comunale Bologna as ‘MADAMA BUTTERFLY!!!’ This will be the very first time I will sing Cio Cio San in the great country of Italy, and I couldn’t be more thrilled!! Ci vediamo molto presto, Bologna!!!”

Moore has recently performed the role at the Staatsoper Berlin and at the Dallas Opera. She has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Arena di Verona, Washington National Opera, Glimmglass Festival, and LA Opera.

She joins a cast that includes Luciano Ganci, Aoxue Zhu, and Dario Solari. The alternate cast includes Zarina Abaeva, Antonio Poli, Angelo Veccia, and Aloisa Aisemberg. The Teatro Comunale di Bologna production of “Madama Butterfly” opens on Feb. 19 and runs through the 25, 2023.
