The Teatro San Carlo has named Fulvio Adamo Macciardi as its new General Director.

Macciardi will take his new position effective immediately.

The news was announced by the Fondazione Teatro di San Carlo, which added that Macciardi will also be the company’s Artistic Director.

The board added that the Teatro San Carlo hopes to continue to be a theater known for its excellence in opera with a modern horizon.

The new General Director previously led the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and will replace Stéphane Lissner, who was ousted following “the urgent legislative interventions, adopted at the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic dated May 4, 2023 concerning the reform of governance including lyric-symphonic foundations which provides for the prohibition of receiving assignments, positions and collaborations for those who have completed the 70th year of age.”
