
Teatro alla Scala Announces Statement Regarding Riccardo Chailly’s Health Following Second Performance of ‘Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk’
By Francisco SalazarThe Teatro alla Scala has released a statement following the second performance of “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” which saw Maestro Riccardo Chailly fall ill.
The company said, “Maestro Riccardo Chailly’s health has improved rapidly after the illness that forced him to interrupt the second performance of Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District.”
Chailly also released a statement, “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the musicians and to everyone who has shown their support and affection at this time: I have been truly touched by the number of messages I have received. I would like to reassure everyone that I will be back on the podium very soon.”
The next performance of “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” is Dec. 13 and the Teatro alla Scala has not announced a new conductor for the performance. The opera which opened the 2025-26 season stars Alexander Roslavets, Yevgeny Akimov, Sara Jakubiak, Najmiddin Mavlyanov, Alexander Kravets, and Elena Maximova.
