Teatro Alla Scala Announces New Video Booklets for Subtitles
By Francisco SalazarThe Teatro Alla Scala has announced new video booklets for audience members.
The new system will replace the system that was installed in 2004 and will consist of 8-inch touchscreen booklets that will have subtitles for each performance in five languages. That is up from two languages, which was what the old system provided.
According to a press release the new video booklets were one of the most challenging projects at the theater as it required the laying of new cables to make the technological advancement.
The new system, which was created with the support of Allianz Italia, consists of 1,944 tablets (680 in the stalls, 784 in the boxes, 480 in the galleries, and 6 monitors for the standing room in the second gallery).
The subtitles will be presented in Italian, English, French, German and Spanish. The system can also transmit subtitles in up to eight languages.
The company has also noted that the screens will have a black background and will be equipped with a special polarized filter that will allow frontal vision while limiting lateral vision to reduce disturbance.
The booklets will be introduced for the opening performance of Nino Rota’s “Cappello di paglia di Firenze” which opens on Sept. 4, 2024, in the stalls and gallery seats.
