Teatro alla Scala Announces New Artistic Coordinator

By Francisco Salazar

The Teatro alla Scala has announced a new Artistic coordinator.

Paolo Gavazzeni will succeed André Comploi, who after five years in the position, has accepted a new position at another institution.

In a statement, superintendent Dominque Meyer said, “André Comploi has worked with me since 2007 and had a central role in the transformation of the Teatro alla Scala. His knowledge of the repertoire and his great relationships with every great artist helped to create the special programming. He will be missed.”

Gavazzeni took to social media and said, “I am so proud and happy for having being appointed as Artistic Coordinator at Teatro alla Scala. Full of gratitude to the Sovrintendente and Artistic Director Fortunato Ortombina for whom I will be working and sharing his ideas and projects on our beloved Teatro alla Scala. Viva Milano e viva il Teatro alla Scala.”

Gavazzeni will take on the position starting March 1, 2025. He previously worked at the Teatro alla Scala as Artistic Director from 2005 to 2011. He was also Artistic Director of the Tv channel Tele+ 3 Classica and Artistic Coordinator of the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala. In 2024, he was named Artistic Director of the 60th Macerata Opera Festival.
