The Associazione Arena Sferisterio has named Paolo Gavazzeni the Artistic Director of the 60° Macerata Opera Festival.

The board announced the news following a meeting on Nov. 6, 2023.

Gavazzeni has been Artistic Director of Televisivo Tele+ 3 Classica and was Artistic Coordinator at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala. He has also been Artistic Director of the Teatro alla Scala, Artistic Director of the Arena di Verona, and Artistic Director of Classica HD.

He has also directed operas including “Aida,” “Manon Lescaut,” “Il Tabarro,” “Adriana Lecouvreur,” “La Cenerentola” and “La Bohème,” among others.

The 2024 Macerata Opera Festival is set to present “La Fanciulla del West” for the first time, followed by “Turandot” and “La Bohème.”
