Following a successful online festival last October, Oxford Lieder is set to present a virtual weekend of song on February 27 and 28, 2021.

Titled “Winter into Spring: The Changing Seasons,” the program is comprised of nine events featuring renowned and rising artists and pianists.

The first day (Feb. 27) will see Joshua Ellicott and Anna Tilbrook performing Britten’s “Winter Words” as well as songs by Schubert.

Dietrich Henschel and Sholto Kynoch will perform “Winterreise,” with Joanna Neilly also holding a study event with live musical examples for Schubert’s famous cycle as she explores the influence of its poet, Wilhelm Müller.

Soprano Nardus Williams will also give a recital of Purcell, Brahms, and Walton.

The next day (Feb. 28) will feature Tara Erraught in recital with Dearbhla Collins for a program of Wolf, Brahms, Dvořák, and Quilter. Next, Philip Bullock will explore the Russian “thaw” which came after the death of Stalin in 1953, with performances by Helen Charlston, Oliver Johnston, and Natalie Burch.

Finally, RPS 2020 Singer of The Year Natalya Romaniw and Lada Valešová will perform Rachmaninov’s “Spring Waters” and songs from their album “Arion: Voyage of a Slavic Soul.”

Concerts will be broadcast live and on-demand from the Holywell Music Room in Oxford.
