The Komische Oper Berlin has announced its 2021-22 season. Here is a look at the operatic and vocal performances.
Opera – Premieres
Enescu’s rarely performed masterwork “Œdipe” opens the season. The opera features Jens Larsen, Joachim Goltz, Vazgen Gazaryan, Shavleg Armasi, Johannes Dunz, Christoph Späth, Karolina Gumos, Katarina Bradić, Mirka Wagner, and Leigh Melrose in the title role. Ainārs Rubiķis conducts a production by Evgeny Titov.

Next up is Kurt Weill’s “Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny.” The opera spotlights Nadine Weissmann, Ivan Turšić, Jens Larsen, Nadja Mchantaf, Alma Sadé, Peter Renz, Tom Erik Lie, Tijl Faveyts, Günter Papendell, and Allan Clayton as Jim Mahoney. Ainārs Rubiķis conducts a production by Barrie Kosky.

Kinderoper “Die Zaubermelodika” showcases Alma Sadé and Mirka Wagner as Pamina, Johannes Dunz as Tamino, Philipp Meierhöfer in the role of Sarastro, and Stefan Sevenich as Queen of the Night. The cast also includes Maria Fiselier, Karolina Gumos, Tom Erik Lie, and Christoph Späth. Koen Schoots conducts a production by Nicole C. Weber.

Magnus Vigilius interprets Boris, and Annette Dasch stars in the title role in Jetske Mijnssen’s production of Leoš Janáček‘s “Káťa Kabanová.” Jens Larsen, Doris Lamprecht, Ivan Turšić, Karolina Gumos, Susan Zarrabi, Timothy Oliver, and Maria Fiselier round out the cast with Giedrė Šlekytė conducting.

Offenbach‘s “Orphée aux enfers” stars Sydney Mancasola as Eurydike, and Tansel Akzeybek in the title role. The cast also includes Max Hopp, Hagen Matzeit, Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke, Peter Bording, Karolina Gumos, Alma Sadé, Maria Fiselier, Peter Renz, and Nadine Weissmann. The cast also includes Johannes Dunz, Jens Larsen, Ivan Turšić, Philipp Meierhöfer, and Timothy Oliver. Ainārs Rubiķis conducts a production by Andreas Homoki.
