
Strauss, Mozart & Verdi Highlight Opera San Jose’s 2019-20 Season
By Francisco SalazarOpera San Jose has announced its 2019-20 season which includes four of the most popular operas in the repertoire.
The company has yet to announce casting for its productions.
The season kicks off with Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus” with Michael Morgan, Music Director of Festival Opera in Walnut Creek conducting the operetta. Marc Jacobs will return to direct this production.
Performance Dates: Sept. 14-29, 2019
In time for the holiday season Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” will be presented. OSJ Music Director Joseph Marcheso will conduct the production by Layna Chianakas.
Performance Dates: Nov. 16-Dec. 1, 2019
Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” returns to San Jose in a rare presentation. Music Director Joseph Marcheso leads the work in a stage production by director Brad Dalton.
Performance Dates: Feb. 15-March 1, 2020
The season concludes with Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.” Brad Dalton directs the productions with Donato Cabrera, making his Opera San José debut, conducting.
Performance Dates: April 18-May 2, 2020
