Malmö Opera to Present Comic Double Bill ‘I List & Lust’

By David Salazar

Malmö Opera will present a touring double bill of two comic operas this fall.

The production, titled “I List & Lust,” combines Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s “La Serva Padrona” and Georg Philipp Telemann’s “Pimpinone” in staging directed by Helena Röhr. This marks the first production audiences will see from Röhr since she became artistic director of Operaverkstan at Malmö Opera.

The production has been modernized and adapted for touring, with both works translated and arranged by Carin Bartosch Edström.

The role of Serpina will alternate between Kristine Nowlain, previously seen in Operaverkstan’s “Måndag är Fiskbulledag,” and Céline Dewrée, who recently appeared in Malmö Opera’s Gala and as one of the stepsisters in last season’s touring production of “Askungen.” Jakob Högström sings Pimpinone, and Fredric Thurfjell sings Vespone while also performing on saxophone during the production.

Annika Bjelk conducts and plays piano, with Elina Nygren on viola. Evelina Johansson designed the sets, costumes, and masks, and lighting design is by Sofia Linde and Hannele Philipsson.

The production premieres Sept. 5 at Teaterhallen in Tomelilla before touring venues across Skåne through Nov. 22. Malmö Opera will also present an extended run of six performances at its home stage, Verkstan, between Sept. 15 and 27.
