Stetson University to Showcase Choirs in Christmas Candlelight Concerts

By Logan Martell

On Dec. 1, 2021, Stetson University’s School of Music in Florida will launch its Christmas Candlelight concerts at First Baptist DeLand.

A university tradition for over a century, these concerts feature choral and sacred music from various cultural and religious traditions and will showcase 175 student musicians from the Stetson University Concert Choir, Hatter Choir, Stetson Chorale, and members of the Chamber Orchestra and Symphonic Band. This year’s concert will also feature John Rutter’s arrangement of “Silent Night,” to be sung by the multiple choirs as they close the performance.

“The in-person 2021 Christmas Candlelight concerts will feature School of Music students safely performing together,” said Timothy Peter, director of choral activities at Stetson, in an official press statement. “Music is a wonderful tool for comfort, healing, and promise, especially during these lonely months that have been experienced by many people during the COVID-19 pandemic. The School of Music is looking forward to sharing the music of the holiday season with the community, families, and friends.”

Performances will be on December 1, 2, and 3, 2021. Tickets will go on sale for $40 on October 1, and audience members will be required to wear masks and physical distance.
