By Francisco Salazar

Opera Colorado is set to open its 40th anniversary with Verdi’s “Rigoletto.”

The opera, which is one of the most popular in the repertoire will star baritone Stephen Powell in the title role. Meanwhile, soprano Sharleen Joynt will sing the role of Gilda, and tenor Joshua Dennis will sing the role of the Duke.

The cast will be rounded out by Mezzo-soprano Sandra Piques Eddy in the role of Maddalena and bass Christian Zaremba as Count Monterone and Sparafucile.

Powell, Joynt, Dennis, and Zaremba are all making their Opera Colorado debuts.

“Rigoletto” is set to be performed from Nov. 5 through 13. On Nov. 10 at 10:00 a.m., there will be a special, abridged performance for students featuring the 2022-23 Artists in Residence in the leading roles alongside the Opera Colorado Chorus and Orchestra, followed by an interactive talk-back with the cast and crew.
