Stefan Vinke, Gaston Rivero, Olga Jelínková & Elisabet Strid Lead Oper Leipzig’s 2021-22 Season

Oper Leipzig has announced its 2021-22 season featuring four new productions. Here is a look:

New Productions

Viktor Ullmann’s “The Fall of the Antichrist” will be conducted by Matthias Foremny and directed by Balázs Kovalik. The production will star Thomas Mohr, Dan Karlström, Kay Stiefermann, Stephan Rügamer, Sebastian Pilgrim, and Martin Petzold.

Performance Dates: Sept. 25-Oct. 17, 2021

David Pountney directs a new production of Wagner’s “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” with Ulf Schirmer conducting. Elisabet Strid, Kathrin Göring, Iain Paterson, Magnus Vigilius, and Sebastian Pilgrim lead the production.

Performance Dates: Oct. 23, 2021-July 3, 2022

Michael Weinius stars in a new production of Wagner’s “Lohengrin” by Katharina Wagner. The cast also includes Gal James, Gabriela Scherer, Kathrin Göring, Sebastian Pilgrim, and Simon Neal. Christoph Gedschold conducts.

Performance Dates: March 26-June 30, 2022

Barbara Kozelj, Magdalena Hinterdobler, Sandra Janke, Sebastian Pilgrim, Patrick Voge and Franz Xaver Schlecht lead the cast of Carl Neilsen’s “Maskarade” with Cusch Jung directing. Stephan Zilias conducts the cast that also stars Dan Karlström, Sven Hjörleifsson, Sejong Chang, Jean-Baptiste Mouret, and Ondřej Potůček.

Performance Dates: April 23-June 4, 2022

Revivals 

Christoph Gedschold conducts Wagner’s “Die Feen” with Christiane Libor, Athanasia Zöhrer, Sandra Maxheimer, Christiane Kohl, Olga Jelínková, Sejong Chang, Roy Cornelius Smith, Nikolay Borchev, Randall Jakobsh, Patrick Vogel, Roland Schubert, and Tae Hee Kwon.

Performance Dates: Sept. 12, 2021-June 20, 2022

Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” will star Gloria Rehm, Julia Sophie Wagner, Stefania Abbondi, Matthias Stier, Jonathan Michie, and Sejong Chang. Christoph Gedschold conducts.

Performance Dates: Sept. 18, 2021-May 28, 2022

Myrtó Papatanasiu sings the title role in Puccini’sTosca with Gaston Rivero and Anooshah Golesorkhi. Christoph Gedschold conducts.

Olga Jelínková, Patrick Vogel, and Franz Xaver Schlecht lead Verdi’s “La Traviata” with Enrico Calesso conducting.

Ulf Schirmer conducts Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman” starring Elisabet Strid, Sandra Janke, Evgeny Nikitin, Randall Jakobsh, and Patrick Vogel.

Wagner’s comedy “Das Liebesverbot” is set to star Manuela Uhl, Nina-Maria Fischer, Magdalena Hinterdobler, Stefan Sevenich, Martin Petzold, Dan Karlström, Mirko Roschkowski, Matthias Stier, Franz Xaver Schlecht, Padraic Rowan, and Tuomas Pursio. Christoph Gedschold conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 14, 2021-June 21, 2022

Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” will return for the holiday season with Kathrin Göring, Karin Lovelius, Sandra Janke, Sandra Maxheimer, Ines Lex, Dan Karlström, and Matthias Stier. Ulf Schirmer conducts

Performance Dates: Dec. 1-19, 2021

Bizet’s “Carmen” will be headlined by Kathrin Göring in the title role. Matthias Foremny conducts a cast that also includes Magdalena Hinterdobler, Gal James, Gaston Rivero, and Gezim Myshketa.

Performance Dates: Dec. 14, 2021-April 17, 2022

Andrea Sanguineti conducts Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” with Lena Belkina in the title role, Gustavo Quaresma as Don Ramiro, Jonathan Michie as Dandini, Randall Jakobsh as Don Magnifico, and Sejong Chang as Alidoro.

Gal James, Magdalena Hinterdobler, Robert Watson, and Jonathan Michie lead Puccini’s “La Bohème” with Christoph Gedschold conducting.

Meagan Miller and Stefan Vinke lead Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” with Barbara Kozelj, Sebastian Pilgrim, Mathias Hausmann, and Matthias Stier. Ulf Schirmer conducts

Performance Dates: Jan. 8-July 1, 2022

Wagner’s “Rienzi” is set to star Vida Mikneviciute, Kathrin Göring, Lenka Pavlovič, Stefan Vinke, Sebastian Pilgrim, and Franz Xaver Schlecht. Matthias Foremny conducts.

Performance Dates: Jan. 23-June 23, 2022

Olga Jelínková sings the title role of Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” with Mathias Hausmann, Arthur Espiritu, and Sejong Chang. Antonino Fogliani conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 10-May 27, 2022

Marius Felix Lange’s “Snow White” will star Lilli Wünscher, Sandra Janke, Martin Petzold, Franz Xaver Schlecht, and Sejong Chang with Justus Thorau conducting.

Performance Dates: Feb. 13-June 1, 2022

The Ring Cycle 

The company will present two cycles of Wagner’s famed tetralogy. “Das Rheingold” will feature Kathrin Göring, Gal James, Tuomas Pursio, Thomas Mohr, Sebastian Pilgrim, Friedemann Röhlig, Kay Stiefermann, and Dan Karlström.

Meanwhile “Die Walküre” will star Elisabet Strid, Allison Oakes, Kathrin Göring, Simon O´Neill, Randall Jakobsh, and Simon Neal.

Thomas Mohr sings the title role in “Siegfried” alongside Dan Karlström, Simon Neal, Tuomas Pursio, Randall Jakobsh, Marina Prudenskaya, Daniela Köhler, and Alina Adamski.

The cycle ends with “Götterdämmerung” starring Lise Lindstrom, Gal James, Kathrin Göring, Stefan Vinke, Tuomas Pursio, Kay Stiefermann, and Sebastian Pilgrim.

 Ulf Schirmer conducts both Ring Cycles.

Cycle One Dates: March 2-6, 2022

Cycle Two Dates: July 7-10, 2022

Thomas Mohr take son the title role in Wagner’s “Parsifal” with Kay Stiefermann, Kathrin Göring, Mathias Hausmann, and Sebastian Pilgrim  Ulf Schirmer conducts the composer’s last opera.

Performance Dates:  April 15 & July 14, 2022

The final production of the year will be Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” with Ulf Schirmer conducting a cast that includes Liene Kinča, Kathrin Göring, Sebastian Pilgrim, Stefan Vinke, Markus Eiche, and Patrick Vogel.

Performance Dates: May 1-June 26, 2022

Special Events 

The company will present a gala concert with operetta.

Performance Date: Dec. 30, 2021

The Silver Konzert will be conducted by Ulf Schirmer.

Performance Date: Dec. 31, 2021

The company will present “Wagner 22,” featuring productions of “Die Feen,”  “Das Liebesverbot,” “Rienzi,” “The Flying Dutchman,” “Tannhauser,””Lohengrin,” “Tristan und Isolde,” “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg,” The Ring Cycle, and “Parsifal.”

Christoph Gedschold conducts an evening of Wagner with soloists Lidia Baich and Andreas Schager.

Performance Date: May 21, 2022
