The State Opera Prague is set to present Schönberg’s “Gurre-Lieder” on June 20, 2023.

The work, which is based on a 14th-century Danish legend, is returning to Prague for the first time since its Czech premiere 102 years ago. The work requires 250 singers and instrumentalists, all of whom will be under the musical direction of conductor Petr Popelka.

Soloists include Michael Weines, Susanne Bernhard, Štěpánka Pučálková, Yngve Søberg, and Kevin Conners.

The performance is presented in co-production with the National Theatre Opera, the Prague Radio Orchestra, and the Musica non grata cycle, which is funded by the Embassy on the Federal Republic of Germany to the Czech Republic.

The performance will be broadcast live via Czech Radio Vltava and Norwegian radio channel NRK P2. It will also be recorded by Czech Television.
