The Staatstheater Wiesbaden has announced the cancelation of a performance on Jan. 13, 2024.

The company said, “The performance of Otello on 13 January in the Großes Haus has been canceled. Please contact the Box Office for refunds or exchanges.”

This is the latest cancellation at the theater following “The crazy living room” and there is speculation that The Rung Cycle rehearsals will likely not be able to take place.

According to Frankfurter Rundschau, “The reason for the cancellations is the conflict between the artistic director and the managing director that has been going on for over a year.”

The German press also reported that there is a financial issue and “the artistic director and managing director share responsibility for finances. But the two men can’t manage it. State Secretary for Culture Ayse Asar, representing the state, and Wiesbaden’s head of culture Hendrik Schmehl (SPD) are of the opinion that Intendant Laufenberg is refusing to stick to the budget, according to a statement. He insists on artistic freedom that exceeds the budget.”
