The Staatsoper unter der Linden has canceled all performances until the end of January 2021.

Among the performances canceled are premieres of Mozart’s “Idomeneo” with Andrew Staples, Lea Desandre and Evelin Novak, and Beethoven’s “Fidelio,” which was supposed to star Simone Schneider, Klaus Florian Vogt, René Pape and Greer Grimsley.

Meanwhile, Komische Oper Berlin has announced that it is stopping all further ticket purchases for performances until at least the end of April 2021. The opera house stated that it will announce a new schedule in due time, but that any performance until the end of January 2021 is highly unlikely.

The Staatsoper Berlin and Komische Oper Berlin have thus joined a long list of German opera houses that have already cancelled their performances until the end of January and February 2021.

Germany entered a new lockdown on Dec. 16 2020, closing all non-essential businesses until at least Jan. 10, 2021.
