Spoleto Festival USA Announces 2024 Season

The Spoleto Festival USA has announced its 2024 season.

The company will present the world premiere of Spoleto’s full-length original chamber opera, “Ruinous Gods.” Composed by Layale Chaker with a libretto by Lisa Schlesinger, the new work will examine the traumatic impact of displacement on refugees. The performances will take place at the College of Charleston’s Sottile Theatre.

Performance Dates: May 24-June 1, 2024

The Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra and Chorus unite for Joseph Haydn’s “The Creation.”

Performance Dates: June 3, 2024

The Spoleto Festival USA Chorus celebrates its third season with a highly anticipated performance at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Composed of gifted vocal fellows from across the nation, the 2024 ensemble presents a diverse program of sacred and secular works spanning classical and contemporary featuring music by Spoleto Chamber series composer-in-residence Reena Esmail, Russian masterworks, and Ugis Praulins’ epic Laudibus in Sanctis.

Performance Dates: June 6 & 7, 2024

Chamber Music 

Karim Sulayman joins Alexi Kenney, Benjamin Beilman, Masumi Per Rostad, Raman Ramakrishnan, and Pedja Mužijević in a program of music by Valentin Silvestrov, Beethoven, and Jonathan Dove. Other soloists include Amy Yang, Benjamin Beilman, and Raman Ramakrishnan.

Performance Dates: May 30 & 31, 2024

Sarah Shafer will perform music by Clara Schumann and Esmail. She is joined by pianist Inon Barnatan, violinist Geneva Lewis, and cellist Paul Wiancko. The concert also includes music by Rachmaninoff, Lou Harrison, and Henrich Biber.
