Sophie Junker Stars in International Handel Festival Göttingen 2026

The International Handel Festival Göttingen announces its 2026 lineup.

Sophie Junker takes on the title role in Händel’s “Deidamia.” The Handel specialist is joined by Nicolò Balducci, Bruno de Sá, Sarah Gilford, Rory Musgrave, and Fenice Petros. The Göttingen University Chamber Choir is led by Antonius Adamske. George Petrou conducts the Göttingen Festival Orchestra. Giorgina Germanou and Ernst Schießl round out the creative team.

Performance Dates: May 15 – 25, 2026


The Children’s Choir Osterode, Youth Choir Herzberg/Osterode Chamber Ensemble with musicians from the Göttingen Festival Orchestra present Wolfgang König’s “Children’s musical.” Jörg Ehrenfeuchter is the Musical Director.

Performance Date: May 16, 2026


Soloists Ingrida Gapova and Przemysław Józef Bałka are joined the Fantastica Ensemble and musicians of the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra in Stravinsky’s “The Soldier’s Tale.” Erich Sidler is the stage director.

Performance Dates: May 17 & 20, 2026


Bruno de Sá performs works by Corelli, Marcello, Handel, and others with Ensemble 1700. Dorothee Oberlinger directs.

Carly Power and Camilo Delgado Díaz and the Neo-Baroque ensemble present YouTuber Michael Sommer’s retelling of Handel’s “Rodelinda” featuring Playmobil characters and videos.

Performance Date: May 23, 2026


Händel’s “Messiah” stars Ana Maria Labin, Lena Sutor-Wernich, Ru Charlesworth, and Drew Santini. They are joined by the NDR Vocal Ensemble and Göttingen Festival Orchestra. George Petrou is the musical director.

The European Hanse Ensemble featuring Ulrike Hofbauer, Aliki Siousti, Jan Fadri Hofstetter, and Vincent Paul Berger present works by Hasse and Tunder.

Performance Date: May 24, 2026


The vocal ensemble Tempera Mente accompanies the Ecumenical service.

Performance Date: May 25, 2026


Tempera Mente present works by Hammerschmidt, Pohle, and Vierdanck. Riccardo Casamichiela accompanies on the organ.
