Sonya Yoncheva Withdraws from Gran Teatre del Liceu’s ‘Adriana Lecourevur’

The Gran Teatre del Liceu has announced a cast change for its production of “Adriana Lecourevur.”

The company said, “We regret to announce that soprano Sonya Yoncheva has to cancel her participation in Adriana Lecouvreur because her dense schedule wouldn’t allow her to rehearse sufficiently for this role debut.”

As a result, Aleksandra Kurzak will sing the title role on June 16, 17, 19, and 20 while Valeria Sepe will perform it on June 22, 26, and 29.

This is the latest cast change for the production which saw Eleonora Buratto, Jonas Kaufmann, and Anita Rachvelishvili drop out earlier this year.

“Adriana Lecouvreur” is also set to star Freddie De Tommaso, Roberto Alagna, Ambrogio Maestri, Luis Cansino, Daniela Barcellona, and Clémentine Margaine.

The opera opens on June 16 and Patrick Summers will conduct.

Yoncheva returns to the Liceu in December 2024 for “Madama Butterfly.” She next sings “Norma” at the Bayerische Staatsoper and “Tosca” in Bulgaria.
