Sonya Yoncheva to Spotlight Pauline Viardot, Verdi, Puccini, Duparc in Metropolitan Opera Recital Debut

Superstar soprano Sonya Yoncheva is set to make her Metropolitan Opera solo recital debut on Jan. 23, 2022.

The showcase, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. will feature the Bulgarian soprano alongside pianist Malcolm Martineau as they take on a wide array of French and Italian repertory.

The first half of the program will feature French selections such as Duparc’s “Invitation au voyage,” “Chanson Triste,” “La Vie Antérieure,” and “Au pays où se fait la guerre;” Pauline Viardot’s “Haï luli!;” Chausson’s “Les temps des lilas,” “Le charme,” and “Sérénade italienne;” Donizetti’s “Depuis qu’une autre a su te plaire;” and Délibes’ “Les filles de Cadix.”

The second part of the program will center on music by Verdi, Martucci, Tosti, and Puccini including such songs as “Sole e amore,” “Terra e mare,” “Mentia l’avviso,” “Canto d’anime,” “Al folto bosco, placida ombria,” “L’ultimo bacio,” “In solitaria stanza,” “Ad una stella,” and “L’esule.”

Yoncheva is set to appear in the Met Opera’s forthcoming production of “Don Carlos.”
