
Sonya Yoncheva to Receive European Culture Prize

Sonya Yoncheva has been awarded the European Culture Prize 2026.
Yoncheva will receive the Prize on Sept. 4 at the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam and is being recognized for her outstanding artistic personalities of the international music scene.
In a statement, Reiner Schränkler, Chairman of the European Cultural Forum said, “Sonya Yoncheva embodies in a special way the cultural power of Europe. She inspires not only as a singer on the world’s greatest stages but is also exceptionally committed to the future of art and culture. She combines international visibility with cultural responsibility, and that is precisely what the European Culture Prize stands for.”
Yoncheva added, “I am deeply honored to receive the European Culture Prize 2026 on September 4 in Amsterdam. This recognition celebrates my journey as an opera singer, cultural entrepreneur, and ambassador for European culture—roles that I embrace with passion and gratitude every day. I am especially delighted that this occasion will also mark my debut in the Netherlands and at the legendary Concertgebouw, a venue I have long admired and dreamed of performing in. Thank you for this recognition. I look forward to celebrating with you in Amsterdam this September!”
The European Culture Prize honors individuals and institutions who have made exceptional contributions to art, culture, and Europe. Previous laureates include Sophia Loren, Mario Adorf, Ronan Keating, Katie Melua, Nigel Kennedy, Gerhard Richter, Neo Rauch, Die Toten Hosen, Scorpions, Karl Lagerfeld, Vivienne Westwood, and the European Union Youth Orchestra.
