Sonya Yoncheva has received the Order of Arts and Letters in France.

The soprano took to social media and said, “It is such an honor to have been named Officière de l’ordre de Arts et des lettres yesterday. The Order of Arts and Letters is the second most important distinction in France, a country that has always been so important throughout my career. Feeling overjoyed and grateful. France, je t’aime!”

The Bulgarian soprano added, “France has always played a crucial role in my career and I am feeling overjoyed and grateful.”

Yoncheva recently completed a run of “Madama Butterfly” at the Berlin State Opera and is set to perform “La Bohème” at Opera Sofia on Feb. 29 and March 2, 2024.
