Sonya Yoncheva Cancels ‘Tosca’ In Paris

By Francisco Salazar

Sonya Yoncheva has canceled her first performance of Puccini’s “Tosca” at the Opera de Paris.

The company announced that due to health reasons, Yoncheva will be unable to perform. As a result,  Elena Stikhina will replace Yoncheva.

Stikhina is currently rehearsing Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino” with the company, which opens on June 6. The soprano is set to alternate with Anja Harteros, who recently ended a run of “Tosca” in Paris.

This is the latest cancelation in this season’s ‘Tosca” run. Earlier this month Jonas Kaufmann canceled the complete run due to medical reasons. He was replaced by Marcelo Puente and Vittorio Grigolo.

Yoncheva is expected to return for one more performance on June 5 and is set to sing alongside Marcelo Puente and Luca Salsi. Dan Ettinger conducts the performance.
