Sonya Yoncheva, Ailyn Pérez, Olga Peretyatko & Benjamin Bernheim Lead Staatsoper Hamburg’s 2021-22 Season

The Staatsoper Hamburg has announced its 2021-22 Season featuring new productions, revivals and Opera Stabile. Here is a look at what audiences can expect.

Premieres

Bernhard Lang’s “Playing Trump” will star Donatienne Michel-Dansac.

Performance Dates: August 20-25, 2021

Daniele Finzi Pasca directs a new production of Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” with Benjamin Bernheim in the title role and Olga Peretyatko as the four heroines. Angela Brower and Luca Pisaroni round out the cast. Kent Nagano conducts.

Performance Dates: Sept. 4-25, 2021

Mozart’s “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” will star Burghart Klaußner, Tuuli Takala, Narea Son, Dovlet Nurgeldiyev, Michael Laurenz, and Ante Jerkunica. Adam Fischer conducts the new production by Paul-Georg Dittrich.

Performance Dates: Oct. 17-Nov. 13, 2021

Dmitri Tcherniakov directs a new production of R. Strauss’ “Elektra” with Ausrine Stundyte in the title role. Violeta Urmana, Jennifer Holloway, and Lauri Vasar also star with Kent Nagano conducting.

Performance Dates: Nov. 28, 2021-April 13, 2022

Puccini’sTurandot gets a new production by Yona Kim with Anna Smirnova singing the title role. The cast also includes Gregory Kunde, Guanqun Yu, and Liang Li. Giacomo Sagripanti conducts.

Performance Dates: March 13-April 1, 2022

Kornél Mundruczó directs Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” with Georg Zeppenfeld, Klaus Florian Vogt, Christoph Pohl, Daniel Kluge, Jennifer Holloway, and Tanja Ariane Baumgartne. Kent Nagano conducts.

Performance Dates: April 25-June 5, 2022

The final new production of the season will be Donizetti’sDon Pasquale by David Bösch. Ambrogio Maestri sings the title role with Rosa Feola, Kartal Karagedik, and Levy Sekgapane. Matteo Beltrami conducts.

Opera Stabile

Daveth Clark conducts the run of “Das Laub fällt auch im Paradies.

Performance dates: Oct. 15 – Nov. 2, 2021

Samuel Penderbayne’s “Unser kleines Scheißkaff – Fucking Åmål” will spotlight Larissa Wäspy, Kady Evanyshyn, Ida Aldrian, Marie-Dominique Ryckmanns, Nicholas Mogg, Hubert Kowalczyk, Peter Galliard, and Katja Pieweck. Ingmar Beck conducts.

Performance dates: Jan. 21 – 30, 2022

Jóhann Kristinsson, Tahnee Niboro, Renate Spingler, and Jannik Nowak star in Isabelle Aboulker’s “Bella und Blaubart.” Luiz de Godoy conducts the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg.

Performance dates: Feb. 12 – 27, 2022

Lorenzo Romano’s “La Luna” showcases Marie-Dominique Ryckmanns, Kady Evanyshyn, Collin André Schöning, Seungwoo Simon Yang, Nicholas Mogg, Han Kim, and David Minseok Kang.

Performance dates: June 24 – July 2, 2022

Revivals 

Sonya Yoncheva leads Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut” alongside Kartal Karagedik and Brian Jagde. Francesco Ivan Ciampa conducts.

Andrzej Dobber and Oksana Dyka lead Verdi’s “Nabucco.” Paolo Arrivabeni conducts the production which also stars Piotr Buszewski, Alexander Vinogradov, and Aigul Akhmetshina.

Alice Coote sings the title role of Handel’s “Agrippina” with Luca Tittoto, Julia Lezhneva, Iestyn Davies, Franco Fagioli, Renato Dolcini, and Vasily Khoroshev.

Ida Aldrian and Elbenita Kajtazi star in the title roles of Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel.” Volker Krafft conducts a cast that also includes Renate Spingler, Katja Pieweck, and Chao Deng.

Nadine Sierra sings the title role in Verdi’s “La Traviata” with Dmytro Popov and Andrzej Dobber. Giampaolo Bisanti conducts.

Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” returns to the star with Andrei Bondarenko in the title role, Luca Pisaroni as Leporello, Nadezhda Pavlova as Donna Anna, Dovlet Nurgeldiyev as Don Ottavio, Alexander Vinogradov as Il Commendatore, Jana Kurucová as Donna Elvira, and Julia Lezhneva as Zerlina. Adam Fischer conducts.

Jacquelyn Wagner leads Beethoven’s “Fidelio” with Simon Neal, Benjamin-Helge Bruns, Andreas Bauer Kanabas, Tahnee Niboro, and Bernhard Berchtold. Kent Nagano conducts Beethoven’s only opera.

Performance Dates: April 26-May 11, 2022

Kent Nagano leads Poulenc’s “Dialogues des Carmélites” with a cast that includes Mojca Erdmann, Piotr Buszewski, Janina Baechle, Catherine Naglestad, Katja Pieweck, Narea Son, and Kristina Stanek.
