The Staatsoper Stuttgart has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of “Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana.”

The company announced that Sonia Ganassi will take over the role of Santuzza replacing Eva-Maria Westbroek on Oct. 22 and 24, 2020.

The production will mark Ganassi’s house debut and it marks her return to the operatic stage following concerts in Italy. The mezzo has performed at the greatest opera houses in the world including the Royal Opera House, Teatro la Fenice, Teatro alla Scala, and Metropolitan Opera. She is well known for her bel canto roles and for performing a diverse repertoire that also includes the works of Verdi, Mascagni, Mozart, Hindemith, and Berlioz.

Ganassi joins a cast that includes Arnold Rutkowski, Rosalind Plowright, and Dimitris Tiliakos. Cornelius Meister conducts the production by Barbara Frey.
