Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute is set to present its SongStudio from Jan. 12–18.
The program explores the future of the vocal recital through intensive workshops with eight emerging vocalists and eight collaborative pianists from around the world. Together with leading artists, collaborative pianists, and coaches, the participants will spend the week receiving instruction and chances to perform at Carnegie Hall. All participating singers and pianists receive private lessons and coaching throughout the week.
Countertenor and General Director and President of Opera Philadelphia Anthony Roth Costanzo returns for a second season to lead SongStudio alongside pianist and scholar Javier Arrebola, who serves as the SongStudio Artistic Advisor. Costanzo, soprano Lisette Oropesa, tenor Lawrence Brownlee, and pianist Bryan Wagorn will each conduct a public masterclass. The week will culminate in a “Young Artists Recital” in Zankel Hall, directed by visual artist Doug Fitch on Jan. 18.
This year’s participants are soprano Madison Marie Fitzpatrick and pianist Felix Otto, soprano Nisha Patel Caiozzi and pianist Anna Gebhardt, mezzo-soprano Madelin Morales and pianist Filipe Gaio, mezzo-soprano Naomi Steele and pianist Marite Männi, mezzo-soprano Lauren Torey and pianist Daniel Prinz, tenor Philippe Durrant and pianist Anna Giorgi, tenor Edward Ferran and pianist Muse Ye, and baritone Will (June Young) Kim and pianist Wan-Yen Li.
The SongStudio builds on the legacy of supporting young vocalists that renowned soprano Marilyn Horne sustained over two decades through her series, “The Song Continues.” Soprano Renée Fleming led SongStudio as Artistic Director for six seasons.
