Sondra Radvanovsky, Pene Pati, Amina Edris, Anita Hartig, Adrienne Danrich Headline Canadian Opera Company’s 2023-24 Season
By David SalazarThe Canadian Opera Company has unveiled its 2023-24 season.
“The Canadian Opera Company is a beacon for the very best in operatic storytelling and experience,” said Canadian Opera Company General Director Perryn Leech in an official press statement. “In creating this season, we collaborated extensively with creators and companies from all over the world to share new programming with our audiences. Throughout 2023/2024, we can explore familiar and less familiar repertoire through innovative and thought-provoking new productions and also hear the most thrilling singing to be heard anywhere. It is a heady mix.”
The season kicks off with “Fidelio” in a production starring Miina-Liisa Värelä, Clay Hilley, Anna-and Sophie Nehr. Matthew Ozawa directs a production conducted by Johannes Debus.
Performance Dates: Sept. 29 – Oct. 20, 2023
John Caird directs “La Bohème” with Pene Pati, Amina Edris, Kang Wang, Joo Won Kang, Blaise Malaba, Justin Welsh, and Charlotte Siegel. Jordan de Souza conducts.
Performance Dates: Oct. 6 – 28, 2023
Jamie Manton directs “The Cunning Little Vixen” with Jane Archibald and Christopher Purves. Johannes Debus conducts.
Performance Dates: Jan. 26 – Feb. 16, 2024
“Don Giovanni” will be presented in a production by Kasper Holten and directed by Amy Lane. The opera stars Anita Hartig, Mané Galoyan, and Paolo Bordogna.
Performance Dates: Feb. 2 – 24, 2024
“Don Pasquale” will star Misha Kiria, Santiago Ballerini, and Joshua Hopkins. Renaud Doucet and André Barbe direct while Jacques Lacombe conducts.
Performance Dates: April 26 – May 18, 2024
There will also be a COC Ensemble Studio presentation of “Don Pasquale.”
Performance Dates: May 14, 2024
“Medea” will star Sondra Radvanovsky in a production by David McVicar. Eric Owens, Matthew Polenzani, and Janai Brugger join her.
Performance Dates: May 3 – 25, 2024
Finally, the Canadian Opera Company presents the world premiere of “Aportia Chryptych: A Black Opera for Portia White” by HAUI and Sean Mayes. Neema Bickersteth and Adrienne Danrich star.
Performance Dates: June 14 – 16, 2024
Additionally, the company will present “Centre Stage: Ensemble Studio Competition.”
