Slovak National Theatre Closes Due to Coronavirus

The Slovak National Theatre has closed for two weeks due to the coronavirus.

The theater released a statement which said, “Please note that, as of today, March 9, the Slovak National Theatre is cancelling all performances in the SND new and historical buildings due to coronavirus COVID-19. This measure is made in compliance with the decision adopted by the SND Director General. All visitors who have purchased their tickets for the next 14 days are kindly asked to request a refund by email.”

The Slovak National Theatre is the latest in Europe to cancel performances due to the outbreak. Over the past months numerous companies including the Teatro alla Scala, Greek National Opera, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro la Fenice, and Teatro dell’opera di Roma. Additionally numerous companies have limited their seating to 1000 people or less.

Slovakia confirmed three coronavirus case on March 6 and has since closed schools and banned travel to Italy.
