The celebrated British baritone Sir Simon Keenlyside will not be appearing for the concert at the Teatro alla Scala on Feb. 6, 2021.

It was originally planned for Sir Simon Keenlyside to perform alongside soprano Chen Reiss with Maestro Zubin Mehta conducting. The Teatro alla Scala did not provide a reason for the famed baritone’s withdrawal.

Keenlyside recently performed the title role in Berg’s “Wozzeck” at the Bayerische Staatsoper, the role of Giorgio Germont in Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and the role of Golaud in Debussy’s “Pelléas and Mélisande” at the Staatsoper Hamburg, among others.

The celebrated baritone is scheduled to return to the stage for performances of Wagner’s “Parsifal” at the Bayerische Staatsoper and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in March and April 2021, before taking on the role of Rodrigo in Verdi’s “Don Carlo” at the Opernhaus Zürich in June 2021. He will also perform the title role in “Macbeth” at the Bayerische Staatsoper in July 2021.
