The Teatro alla Scala has announced that a production of R. Strauss’ “Salome” will be streamed on Feb. 20, 2021.

The new production by Damiano Michieletto was set to open on March 8, 2020, but was canceled due to COVID-19. The production had already been in rehearsals when the production was canceled and was originally set to star Malin Bystrom and Michael Volle. Rai Cultura will broadcast the opera on Rai5 and will represent the first new production for the company since the March 2020 lockdown.

Zubin Mehta, who made his La Scala debut with “Salome,” will conduct the production which will star Elena Stikhina in the title role, Wolfgang Koch, Gerhard Siegel, and Linda Watson.

The Teatro alla Scala also announced that Mehta will conduct a concert on Feb. 6 featuring Mozart’s Symphony No. 38 and soloists Chen Reiss and Sir Simon Keenlyside. Reiss will perform “Voi avete un cor fedele” and “Chi sa, chi sa, qual sia” and Keenlyside will perform Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder. The concert will also include Ravel’s “La Valse.”
