Singapore Lyric Opera to Present ‘Cavalleria Rusticana’ & “Pagliacci’
By Francisco SalazarThe Singapore Lyric Opera is set to present a semi-staged double bill of Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” and Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci.”
Nancy Yuen will direct the production with Joshua Tan conducting. The opera stars Martin Ng, Jonathan Charles Tay, José Heredia, and Lisa Algozzini, among others.
“I am relishing the challenge to take on the two key roles in this double bill and look forward to sharing the stories with my interpretation of the two characters in one sitting,” Ng said in an official press statement issued by the company. “Alfio and Tonio are completely different characters and dangerous in their own ways. Alfio is outwardly dangerous whereas Tonio is more insidious and psychologically complex.” said Martin Ng.
The double bill will also feature SLO Adult Chorus and the SLO Chamber Orchestra.
The Verismo operas will be presented on Nov. 23 and 24, 2023 at the Sota Concert Hall. They will be performed with English and Chinese surtitles.
