The Music Academy’s SING! Children’s Choir and the Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC) are joining forces for a special concert at the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara on July 23, 2023.

This event will feature the world premiere of “Tides,” a new work by composer and former Miss America Nia Imani Franklin, commissioned by YPC Founder Francisco J. Núñez.

“Tides” explores the intricate relationship between humanity and the Earth, prompting reflection on our environmental impact and the importance of sustainability. The concert aims to engage audiences of all ages.

“My hope with this new work is to inspire more conversation about how we can live more sustainably and leave a strong legacy of living selflessly,” Franklin said in an official press release.

Núñez added, “We’re thrilled to bring our YPC National program to Music Academy and the 35 teachers from around the country that will participate in this residency to learn with us. It’s always been a dream of mine to create this choral training initiative where YPC philosophies and methods are learned and then brought to other communities.”

The performance concludes YPC’s weeklong residency at the Music Academy, where students from across the country collaborate with MacArthur Fellow Francisco J. Núñez, Nia Imani Franklin, and other YPC artistic faculty to study repertoire and refine their conducting skills.

This musical event comprises 150 talented young singers, offering audiences an immersive experience.
