Sharon Sweet, Carol Vaness & Giuseppe Filianoti To Be Honored By Giulio Gari Foundation

The Giulio Gari Foundation is set to hold its annual benefit gala on Sunday, Oct. 21 honoring three opera singers.

The foundation will honor opera stars Carol Vaness, a lirico-soprano known for her Mozart operatic roles and for her work at the Metropolitan Opera, dramatic soprano Sharon Sweet, known for her Verdi and Wagner roles, and Italian tenor Guiseppe Filianoti.

The gala will be hosted by Ken Benson and co-hosted by Scott Barnes and will including performances by the winners of the 2018 International Vocal Competition held each year by the foundation; grant winners will also perform. The winners of the competition are Hubert Zapior, Kidon Choi and Cesar Delgado. Other winners include Jaemon Yoon and Michelle Bradley. Pianist Jonathan Kelly will accompany.

The grant winners for this year are Seokjong Baek, Helena Brown, Dangelo Diaz, Jorge Espino, Jana McIntyre, and Marlen Nahas. The Gala will be held at the New York Athletic Club with the concert beginning at 3 p.m. and will be followed by dinner.

The foundation was named after Giulio Gari who was a recognized singer who performed in such opera houses as the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, and Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, as well as with the NBC Symphony Orchestra.
