The opera world will be front and center in the new film “Seven Veils,” which is set to premiere at the Berlin Film Festival.

The film, which made its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, tells the story of an earnest theater director who has the task of remounting her former mentor’s most famous work, the opera “Salome.” Some disturbing memories from her past will allow her repressed trauma to color the present.

Atom Egoyan directs the film which stars Amanda Seyfried.

Egoyan has a relationship with the Strauss opera as he directed a theater production of “Salome” for the Canadian Opera Company in 1996 and came back in 2023 to direct a revival.
