Sergey Romanovsky, Sooyeon Lee & Jonathan Tetelman Lead Theater Dortmund’s 2023-24 Season

The Theater Dortmund has announced its 2023-24 season featuring new productions and concerts.

Premieres 

Sergey Romanovsky, Sungho Kim, Jonathan Tetelman, Anna Sohn, and Zhala Ismailova lead a new production of Puccini’s “La Bohème.” The cast also includes Rinnat Moriah, Sooyeon Lee, Mandla Mndebele, Daegyun Jeong, Morgan Moody, Daegyun Jeong, and Denis Velev. Gabriel Feltz conducts the production by Gil Mehmert.

Performance Dates: Sept. 2, 2023-Jan. 6, 2024

Cosima Büsing, Wendy Krikken, and Franz Schilling star in “Instame” by Kathrin A. Denner and Christoph Kohlbacher.

Performance Date: Sept. 27, 2023

Jonathan Larson’s “Rent” takes the stage in a production by Gil Mehmert. The cast includes David Jakobs, Dominik Hees, Alex Snova, Pedro Reichert, Lukas Mayer, Patricia Meeden, and Bettina Mönch. Jürgen Grimm and Karsten Scholz conduct.

Performance Dates: Sept. 30, 2023-April 1, 2024

“Prinzessin sein? Nein, danke” will feature music by Verdi and Mozart with soloists Cosima Büsing, Wendy Krikken, and Franz Schilling. Alexander Becker directs.

Performance Date: Oct. 10, 2023

Offenbach’s “Orpheus in der Unterwelt” will star Zachary Wilson, Rinnat Moriah, Maria Hiefinger, Fritz Steinbacher, Schortie Scheumann, Morgan Moody, and Christine Groeneveld.

Performance Dates: Nov. 11, 2023-May 30, 2024

Das NEINhorn” will be conducted by Koji Ishizaka and will feature soloists Cosima Büsing, Wendy Krikken, and Franz Schilling.

Performance Date: Dec. 13, 2023

“A Musical Christmas With Friends” will be performed with Harriet Jones and Anton Zetterholm.

Performance Date: Dec. 20, 2023

“La Montagne Noire” will star Sergey Radchenko, Mandla Mndebele, Denis Velev, Aude Extrémo, Anna Sohn, and Hyona Kim. Motonori Kobayashi conducts the new production by Emily Hehl.

Performance Dates: Jan. 13-May 10, 2024

György Kurtág’s “Fin de Partie” will star Frode Olsen, Morgan Moody, Katharina Peeck, and Leonardo Cortellazzi. Johannes Kalitzke conducts the production by Philipp Armbruster.

Performance Dates: March 1-May 11, 2024

“Die Reise zu Planet 9” will be composed by Pierangelo Valtinoni with a libretto by Paolo Madron. Mandla Mndebele, Sooyeon Lee, Sungho Kim, Hyona Kim, Fritz Steinbacher, Daegyun Jeong, and Denis Velev star with Koji Ishizaka conducting and Cordula Däuper directing.

Performance Date: March 20, 2024

Michael Kupfer-Radecky headlines Wagner’s “Das Rheingold” alongside Morgan Moody, Sungho Kim, Matthias Wohlbrecht, Joachim Goltz, Fritz Steinbacher, Denis Velev, Artyom Wasnetsov, Hyona Kim, Irina Simmes, and Melissa Zgouridi. Gabriel Feltz conducts the new production by Peter Konwitschny.

Performance Dates: May 9-June 8, 2024

“Viva la Diva” will be performed by Anna Sohn, Sooyeon Lee, Sungho Kim, and Denis Velev. It will be moderated by Heribert Germeshausen.  Motonori Kobayashi conducts the performance, which features music by Donizetti.

“Oper erleben: Die Piraten von Penzance” will be conducted by Olivia Lee-Gundermann.

Revivals 

Denis Velev, Sungho Kim, Mirko Roschkowski, Mandla Mndebele, Yisae Choi, Antonina Vesenina, Soyoon Lee, Alina Wunderlin, Gloria Rehm, Tanja Christine Kuhn, Morgan Moody, Johannes Martin Kränzle, Daegyun Jeong, Margot Genet, and Wendy Krikken star in Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte.” Motonori Kobayashi and Andrea Alessandrini conduct.

“Mädchen in Not” will star Wendy Krikken, Ruth Katharina Peeck, Natascha Valentin, Daegyun Jeong, and Marcelo de Souza Felix.

“Persona” will star Ruth Katharina Peeck, Anna Lucia Struck, and Marcelo de Souza Felix.

Concerts

Music by Sergei Prokofiev and Maurice Ravel headline a program conducted by Gabriel Feltz.

Performance Date: Dec. 5 & 6, 2023

Martijn Dendievel conducts a program of music by Richard Rodgers/Oscar Hammerstein, Dmitri Schostakovich, and Franz Waxman. Nobby Dickel and Dr. Michael Stille moderate with soloists Morgan Moody and Mira Foron.

Gloria Rehm performs works by John Adams, Johann Strauß, George Gershwin, György Ligeti, and Ludwig van Beethoven. Gabriel Feltz conducts.

Wiener Klassik 

Rinnat Moriah performs with the Dortmunder Philharmoniker in a concert featuring music by Beethoven, Elgar, Britten, and Mozart. Christian Zacharias conducts.
