Bampton Classical Opera has named soprano Seohyun Go the winner of the 2025 Young Singers’ Competition.

Second Prize was awarded jointly to mezzo-soprano Emma Roberts and soprano Erin Rossington. Daniel Peter Silcock received the Accompanists’ Prize.

The final was held on Nov. 25 at the Leonard Wolfson Auditorium, Wolfson College, Oxford, adjudicated by tenor Bonaventura Bottone, mezzo-soprano Jean Rigby, and vocal coach Ingrid Surgenor.

Soprano Go receives £2,000; Roberts and Rossington each receive £500; and Silcock is awarded £750.

Soprano Go’s program included works by Marx, Händel, Respighi, and Mozart.

“Our winner, Seohyun Go, has a serene presence and gave a flawless performance vocally with a seemingly unlimited range and brilliance in coloratura. She illuminated areas of ornamentation that rarely seem possible,” said Bottone, per an official press release.

A native of South Korea, Go studies Opera at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. She recently won the Guildhall Gold Medal and was a 70th Kathleen Ferrier Awards finalist. Her experience includes performances with Korean National Opera, Tonhalle Zürich, and at Baumgarten Hall, with upcoming engagements including Der Wald, Lucrezia, and Owen Wingrave.

Roberts is a National Opera Studio alumna and winner of multiple awards, including prizes at the Kathleen Ferrier Awards and International Schumann Competition Zwickau. Her recent roles include covers at Garsington and Welsh National Opera.

Rossington was Associate Artist at Welsh National Opera in 2024–25 and has performed Micaëla in “Carmen” at Buxton Festival and Contessa at WNO. She is a past winner of the Elizabeth Harwood Memorial Prize.

Silcock, a Scottish pianist based in London, has appeared at Carnegie Hall and Wigmore Hall and is a Samling Artist and Britten-Pears Young Artist.

Launched in 2013, the biennial competition identifies emerging singers working or studying in the UK. The Accompanists’ Prize was added in 2017. This year’s competition began with 54 entrants aged 21–32, from which eight finalists were selected for the public final.
