Semyon Bychkov Cancels Czech Philharmonic Concerts Due to Surgery

By Francisco Salazar

The Czech Philharmonic has announced that Semyon Bychkov will not conduct January performances due to hip surgery he received in mid-December after his American tour.

As a result, Herbert Blomstedt and Nicholas Kraemer will take over the concerts in the second half of January. Bychkov will return to his orchestra in February.

Blomstedt will conduct a concert of music by Giovanni Gabrieli, Adriano Banchieri, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Franz Schubert. Meanwhile, Kraemer will conduct Johann Sebastian Bach’s Mass in B minor, with soloists Miriam Kutrowatz, Catriona Morison, Patrick Grahl, and Christian Immler.

Bychkov recently announced that he would end his tenure as Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Czech Philharmonic during the 2027-28 season. He has been Music Director of the orchestra since 2018.
