The Czech Philharmonic has announced that Semyon Bychkov has canceled the opening night concerts on Sept. 25 and 26, 2024.

The company said that the “new season with the Czech Philharmonic will be opened by the Swiss conductor Charles Dutoit. Chief Conductor Semyon Bychkov has undergone back surgery, which will require a four-week rest. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to all the concerts in the 129th season!”

Bychkov is set to return to the podium at the end of October

Dutoit is well-known for his interpretations of French and Russian music of the 19th and 20th centuries. Additionally, the company said the first subscription week of concerts will be conducted by Polish-German conductor Marek Janowski.

The concert on Sept. 25 will be broadcast by Czech Television on the ČT art channel  and the second concert on Sept. 26 will be available to view via Stage+ online.
