The Semperoper Dresden has announced that it will reopen on Jan. 16.

The company, which has been closed since November, will return once the new Coronavirus Protection Ordinance comes into force on Jan. 15, 2022.

The house will reopen with the Staatskapelle Dresden performing its 5th symphony concert and then will continue with new productions of “The Bald Soprano” and “The Other Wife.” The company will also perform Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.” However, the company will has canceled its planned production of “Die Fledermaus.”

The “2G-Plus Rule” will apply to all Semperoper venues. An FFP2 mask must be worn at all times in every venue.

The Semperoper Dresden was forced to close earlier this fall due to the surge in COVID-19 and was forced to cancel performances of Wagner’s “Tannhäuser,” among others.
