The Semperoper Dresden has announced that it will extend closure up to and including Jan. 14, 2022.

“In accordance with the updated Saxon Coronavirus Protection Ordinance, attendance at cultural events remains prohibited. Performances at the Semperoper are thus suspended up to and including Friday, 14 January 2022. The Semperoper will provide information on the potential resumption of live events and the launch of ticket sales in good time as soon as the new coronavirus regulations are known. These are expected to come into force on 15 January 2022,” said the opera house in an official statement.

Thus, the Semperoper Dresden was forced to cancel the second performance of Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” on Jan. 11, 2022. The opera house hopes to reopen on Jan. 15 with a performance of Johann Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus.”

The current seven-day incidence in Dresden stands at 352.4.
